DO YOU USE PACKAGES OR SET MENUS? OR PRICE BY PER HEAD?
We thrive on personal relationships. We want to work closely with you to design a menu that fits your taste as well as seasonal availability for our local farms. We work directly with our farmers and producers to bring you quality local and, often organic, ingredients. This involves ongoing conversations with farmers to ensure they are being paid fairly and operating in a sustainable manner. There are many things we consider when building a locally sourced menu including the number of proteins, ratio of hot to cold dishes, and serving dishes that reflect the season. Your needs are unique and special and we want that to be evident at your event.
WHAT IS YOUR MINIMUM HEAD COUNT?
We can service events up to 225 guests. Please check with our Sales Director for availability.
WHAT TYPE OF SERVICES DO YOU PROVIDE?
Chive is a ‘full service’ events company. We not only love a good food but also a well planned party! We provide the best in local, seasonal and orgainc food, all made from scratch in our Beverly, MA kitchen. We work with you to design your ideal gathering, whether an intimate luncheon or formal wedding. We will help you host an event that looks as good as it tastes. When you work with Chive you can let go, have a good time and let us worry about every little detail.
WHAT DOES ‘FULL SERVICE’ MEAN TO CHIVE?
We are not just a catering company. When working with Chive you will receive a holistic approach to planning your entire event. We manage food, food service, bar, bar service, florals, set-up, breakdown, and coordination with all vendors. We are unique in that we also able help with design elements such as signage or centerpieces.
DO YOU HANDLE THE SET-UP AND BREAK-DOWN?
We are happy and prefer to plan and coordinate the entire event. This includes the coordination of vendors, planning the floor-plan, setting up the vision and breaking the entire event down at the end of the event. Chive takes good care of all venues and spaces we work in by leaving it just as clean as when we arrived. We will remove all compost waste from site and coordinate all rentals to be cleaned and picked-up according to venue requirements.
HOW CAN I SAVE MONEY ON MY EVENT?
Chive offers a range of different styles of events, from lunches to cocktail parties to formal sit-down dinners. There is almost always a way to have a lovely event within your budget. However, we do have a couple of unbreakable standards. 1) We will not understaff an event. 2) We will not under portion (there is nothing worse than running out of food). 3) We will not compromise our sourcing standards.
It is helpful to know the budget you’re working with from the beginning in order to provide you with the best options. We can create simple, rustic events or multi-course feasts. Just let us know your needs and we’re happy to work with you on creative solutions while staying within our sustainability mission.
DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS OR SPECIAL PRICING FOR NON-PROFITS OR FUNDRAISERS?
There are basic elements that it takes to produce any event, especially a sustainable event. Food, preparation, service, and bar are non-negotiable. We are happy to work with a non-profit on saving resources by working with you to design an event that encourages people to give.
DO YOU OFFER DROP OFF SERVICES?
We are currently not set-up to offer drop-off services. However, we can work with you to design a casual, low maintenance lunch, picnic, or corporate function using compostable serve-ware. This business decision helps us practice our commitment to zero-waste events as well as serving the freshest food possible.
WHAT DOES ‘ZERO-WASTE’ MEAN?
Exactly how it sounds! We manage our waste by composting and recycling everything. No non-recyclables come into our kitchen, which means no trash comes to or from your event. The majority of off-site catered events result in 5+ large black bags full of trash headed straight for the landfill. When you choose to work with Chive you choose to host an environmentally conscious gathering. We’ve also figured out through our experience how to source and serve the appropriate amount of food for your event without the fear of anyone going hungry or too much going into the compost!
CAN I BUY MY OWN LIQUOR FOR THE BAR?
We prefer to provide you with our distinctive sustainable bar menu. Chive has built strong relationships with beer, wine and alcohol producers that follow our standards of sustainability. We work with our liquor distributor to bring you the best options for craft beers, locally made and organic spirits and sustainably produced wines (domestic and imported). We never offer sodas or beverages containing high fructose corn syrup. In fact, we make a lot of tasty, non-alcoholic fizzy drinks in house! Please talk with our Sales Director for further details.
DO YOU ALLOW ‘SELF-SERVE’ BAR AT EVENTS?
We think the bar is one of the most important components to hosting a successful event. After all doesn’t everyone have a better time when they have a beverage in hand? We are not naive to the fact that the bar is the most popular and high-maintenance spot of an event. A bar area can get messy fast as well as being an intimidating space for your guests to approach. Therefore we have carefully thought about the many aspects it takes to produce a well-executed bar. From set-up to design to style of service – we bring an approach that is not only flawless but also zero-waste and locally sourced.
WHAT IF I OR A GUEST WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MEAL IN SOME WAY?
If you have an aunt who makes great pies or a brother who brews beer, we would love to help you feature their efforts at your event. However, we do ask for as many details as possible when planning on how those items will be presented so that there is a cohesive vision, clarity on quantity and of course – credit is given, where credit is due.
HOW DO YOU SOURCE YOUR FLOWERS FOR FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS?
We source our flowers just like we source or food, as seasonal and local as possible. We work closely with Farmer Melissa of Aster.B and Maitland Farm. We arrange the flowers right here in our Beverly kitchen and are known to use fresh greens, herbs and moss growing right in our backyard garden.
DO I HAVE TO GET MY FLORALS THROUGH CHIVE?
We prefer to have holistic approach to every event and to do this means incorporating sustainability in all aspects of planning, including how your centerpieces are made. Local flowers are a wonderful accent to any seasonal menu.
CAN CHIVE HELP US FIND A VENUE?
We think picking the right venue for your guests can make or break the vibe of any event. Therefore, we are happy to provide you with a list of venues that we have enjoyed working with and hope to work at again. We find working with venues we have relationships with helps to streamline the planning process. However, we also love to keep our job interesting by working with a new space that is meaningful to our clients.
